Our Nagayama Sencha is produced by Mr. Nagayama Kazuhiro, a 4th generation tea farmer with certifications in sustainable best practices. This is a deep-steamed (fukamushi) Sencha and a blend of two first harvest cultivars, Yabukita and Yutaka-midori. It has a bright and refreshing flavor profile that can easily be a delicious go-to daily Sencha.
The Chiran area has a deep tradition of tea farming in Japan that began around 1659 with history tracing back to the samurai era. Located in southernmost Japan, Chiran is an ideal tea growing region due to its warm and humid climate and is therefore able to grow a variety of cultivars beyond the common Yabukita. The tea fields are grown on steep hillsides with mineral-rich volcanic soils producing highly flavorful teas. Chiran is an award-winning tea region.
